Survey for Newly Graduates

Certificate of Graduation - Document Authentication

Most foreign governments require that documents be authenticated by Bureau of Consular Affairs, BOCA or Ministry of Foreign Affairs, MOFA'S branch offices, but some do not. Therefore, BOCA suggests applicants contact the embassy/office of the country related to the documents to determine whether or not these documents need BOCA's or a MOFA branch office's authentication.

In addition to the regulations set forth above, applicants and their agents are also requested to pay attention to the following:
(1) BOCA and MOFA's branch offices provide walk-in-service only. Applicants are served on a first-come first-served basis.
(2) When applying for document authentication, applicants must prepare enough copies, namely, in addition to the documents to be authenticated, they must provide BOCA or MOFA's branch offices with one supplementary copy of each document for record-keeping.
(3) Please allow two working days for the necessary procedure of authentication.
(4) Failure to adhere to BOCA or MOFA's branch offices guidelines may prolong the authentication process.
(5) A 24-hour expedited service is now available; the extra charge for each original document is NT$200, for each document copy NT$100.

Tax Refund

【Foreigners staying in the R.O.C. (Taiwan) 183 days or more in one calendar year 】will be required to file their annual income for the previous year to the Tax Bureau and pay the corresponding taxes during the period from May 1st to May 31st of the current year. However, those leaving the country in the middle of the year will be required to file income earned in that year prior to departure.
The mandatory time of filing individual income tax returns for the preceding fiscal year is from May 1st to May 31st （if May 31st falls on Saturday, Sunday, national holiday or any other holiday, the due day extends to the next workday）.
Foreigners should file their income tax returns and pay their corresponding taxes to the district National Taxation Bureau (based on the address on their Alien Resident Certificate, hereafter shortened as ARC).
If a foreigner has source income from R.O.C. (Taiwan) but fails to file income tax return, such taxes will be charged a penalty rate of a maximum of three times the amount of the tax payable and the tax authorities will inform the National Immigration Agency to deny exit clearance to the foreigner in accordance with the stipulation of Paragraph 2, Article 72 of the Income Tax Act of the R.O.C. (Taiwan)

ARC Extension after graduation

Important Notice Regarding Graduates ARC Extension for Job-Seeking

Please be advised that upon graduation, the University will immediately submit the list of graduates to the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the National Immigration Agency (NIA). Consequently, graduates student residency status (Student ARC) will no longer be valid.

If graduates wish to stay in Taiwan to seek employment after graduation, graduates must apply to the NIA to change your residency status to "job-seeking."

1.Collect graduation certificate as soon as possible after graduating.

2.Within two weeks of graduation date, graduates must apply for an ARC extension (for seeking employment) in person at National Immigration Agency.

3.Please bring the graduation certificate and all other required supporting documents for the application.

According to the latest regulations, the extension duration and work rights differ based on your nationality. Please review the specific rules below:

🔹 International Students (Allowed to Work)

○ARC Validity & Duration: The initial extension is calculated as 12 months starting from the month of your graduation. ○Maximum Extensions: You are limited to 2 extensions, allowing for a total post-graduation stay of up to 2 years. ○Work Rights: During this extension period, you do not need to apply for a work permit and are permitted to work legally immediately upon being hired (applicable to both full-time and part-time positions).

🔹Overseas Chinese Students from Hong Kong and Macau (NOT Allowed to Work)

○ARC Validity & Duration: The initial extension is calculated as 6 months starting from the month of your graduation. ○Maximum Extensions: You are limited to 2 extensions, allowing for a total post-graduation stay of up to 1 year. ○Work Restrictions: You are NOT allowed to work during this seeking-employment extension period. Once you find a job, you must successfully obtain an official work permit and convert your status to a "Work ARC" before you can legally start working.

Working Permit

For those who are the graduates or extend their graduation, their Work Permits will expiry on 30 June of the same year and will not be allowed to apply in the summer.If you plan to postpone your study and would like to work during the summer/winter break, you have to ask for a certificate issued by Registration Section, thus you may apply for a work permit between July/January and September/February. When you complete the school registration, you will be allowed to apply for the next period.

National Health Insurance

National Health Insurance for Graduated Student will be withdrawal on July for the graduation year. Student staying in Taiwan for seeking a job after graduation should proceed to National Health Insurance Administration or District Office nearby your hoursing area to maintain your health insurance active.
For student leaving Taiwan earlier, please inform OICA and be noticed that company is responsible to handle your national health insurance once you successefully get the job offer
